Sheriff Doug Bryant joined the Richmond County Sheriff's Office in July of 1977 as a Correctional Officer.  He graduated from Basic Correctional Officer School at the Richmond Regional Criminal Justice Academy in September 1977.  Sheriff Bryant was promoted to Deputy Sheriff and graduated from Basic Law Enforcement #5 at the Rappahannock Regional Criminal Justice Academy in November 1980.  Sheriff Bryant has been active in all facets of law enforcement rising through the ranks during his 29 year tenure.  He became Sheriff of Richmond County in January of 2004.

Sheriff Bryant is a native of Richmond County and is active in his church and community.
